Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association to Host Sorority Recruitment Information Session

Atlanta, GA (PRWeb) March 16, 2007 -- The Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association (AAPA) cordially invites all high school senior girls headed to college to its annual Recruitment Roundtable to learn about sorority life and the recruitment process.

"Sorority life can be one of the most rewarding aspects of both the college experience and life as an alumna," says Marge Lovewell, AAPA Vice-President and Recruitment Chairman. "In addition to academics, it is important for women to learn how to build a network of reliable relationships that they can use once college is over."

The AAPA is the Atlanta-area affiliate of the National Panhellenic Conference, a collective of 26 women's Greek-letter organizations with 3.8 million members worldwide. AAPA represents 19 of these 26 sororities.

"In order for each young woman and each sorority to evaluate each other fairly, a structured system is in place called Formal Recruitment on college campuses," continues Lovewell. "A series of socials will introduce women to each of the sororities; they get to visit with the members and learn more about the activities, charity work, and general ideals. Then the sororities and the potential members mutually select each other."

Formal Recruitment is designed to make this mutual selection process easier, not more difficult, according to the sorority delegates of AAPA. The Roundtable intends to explain the recruitment process, and offer advice to give participants the best chance of a successful match with their sorority home. One of the key elements of this event is to dispel myths and "urban legends" about sororities. Lovewell says, "All private societies have had to deal with outlandish rumors that just seem to appear suddenly. We hope the ladies attending Roundtable will bring lots of questions so that they feel equipped to explore sorority life for themselves. We're also looking forward to meeting parents and answering their questions too."
